But whilst Tara is raised as a Princess; whereas Maya is forever reminded of her subordinate position as her servant. It is through her striking beauty and her skills of seduction learnt through the Kama Sutra, the Indian book of love, that Maya exacts her revenge on Tara by seducing her husband on her wedding day thus beginning a destructive struggle for power where revenge is the goal, but tragedy the outcome.
QUEER NOTES
A long drawn sensuous love making scene between the two protagonists Maya and Tara which created quite a ripple but also received flak from many who felt offended by 'sex being shown as something cutesy to stimulate the male appetite--that its something women are supposed to do to excite their eventual male partners' 12 However a gladiator type contest between the sculptor and the king is an intensely homoerotic 'friendly' competition in which the two, nearly naked, grapple and dance in a male-bonding wrestling match. It is rumored that a new version of Kamasutra was released with expanded mode of lesbian scenes. 13
ACTOR/S IN QUEER ROLE
Indira Verma as Maya and Sarita Choudhary as Tara (lesbian love making)
